Potential strikes in June at Portugal ports could cause delays for vessels calling there.

A nationwide General Strike has been called by major unions in Portugal for 03 June 2026.

While the full impact remains uncertain, disruptions are expected across public services, including Customs, as well as port operations. One of the unions representing Port Administration workers has also issued a strike notice, which may affect:

Pilotage
Pilot launch services
VTS
Other port activities

Please note that, depending on shift schedules, the strike may start earlier or extend beyond 03 June, if the majority of a worker’s shift falls within the strike period.

Stakeholders are advised to plan accordingly, as delays and service disruptions may occur.

Correspondent Pinto Basto Portugal updates with a Notice of Strike (Nationwide Mainland) that has been issued by the National Union of workers of Port Administrations and CLT-Sines Oil terminal.

Any and all operations and activities that must or may intervene, in accordance with schedule and conditions that are indicated below:

Port Administration workers from Ports on the Mainland Portugal

No operations or activities will be carried out in the periods indicated below:

From 00:00 am on October 23rd, 2025 to 24:00 on October 24th, 2025.
From 00:00 am on October 27th, 2025 to 24:00 on October 28th, 2025.
From 00:00 am on October 31st, 2025 to 24:00 on November 01st, 2025.
From 00:00 am on November 04th, 2025 to 24:00 on November 05th, 2025.
From 00:00 am on November 07th, 2025 to 24:00 on November 08th, 2025.

This may affect Pilot launch boats personnel and pilots.

In Sines, it will affect the shore operations at the terminal via CLT personnel.

Iberum P&I Correspondents updates with a Notice of Strike received from the National Union of Workers of Port Pilotage covering ALL Portuguese ports, which may strongly affect the normal vessel traffic (entrance/sailings) at the Portuguese ports, during the following periods:

From 00:00 hours on 12th May 2025, until 24:00 hours on 13th May 2025.
From 00:00 hours on 15th May 2025, until 24:00 hours on 16th May 2025.
From 00:00 hours on 20th May 2025, until 24:00 hours on 21st May 2025.
From 00:00 hours on 26th May 2025, until 24:00 hours on 27th May 2025.
From 00:00 hours on 30th June 2025, until 24:00 hours on 31st May 2025.

The impact on each port will depend on the level of adherence of workers to the strike, at this stage is unknown if the normal vessel traffic at Aveiro port will be affected or not during strike period.

For reference, during the last strike of Workers of the Ports Administrations at Aveiro there were no vessels entering or leaving the ports due lack of pilots / motor launches to transport the pilots, causing congestion and further delays.
