Welfare of your crew

Crew & wellbeing

Your crews’ welfare is crucial to your business. We believe the wellbeing of seafarers is a holistic concept, encompassing physical, mental, and social health. This section offers valuable resources to support these essential aspects and more.

Our club has championed seafarer wellbeing for years. We remain committed to raising awareness and exploring new ways to support our seafarers, contributing to a safer shipping industry.

Part of this involves making sure crews are well informed about safety regulations. We offer a range of practical tools including publications, posters, and onboard initiatives designed to reinforce safety awareness and best practice. Members can also access specialist safety guides through their account, covering topics such as personal injury prevention and a safety guide for new members.

Although there are various resources offering support, seafarers' health ultimately rests in their own hands. It’s essential to encourage them to stay committed to their mental and physical wellbeing, while reminding them that professional help is always on hand.

By creating a culture of safety and wellbeing, we help crews stay resilient, informed, and supported – both on and off duty. For more help, our Loss Prevention team is always available at nslossprevention@north-standard.com.

Prevention measures

Seafarers’ health and wellbeing are crucial for safe, efficient, and profitable ship operations. While some illness and injury claims are unavoidable, many can be prevented by taking the proper precautions.

Recovery action

Illness or injury on board can escalate quickly due to a vessel’s distance from port, increasing the risk to the crew member and potentially leading to costly outcomes such as deviation, medical treatment, sick pay, and claims.

Our range of recovery resources, services, and insights provide practical, high-quality care for seafarers at every stage. From comprehensive medical assistance to specialised post-repatriation support, these programmes are designed to aid recovery, reduce costs, enhance crew safety, and control costs.
